Characterization and Materials Properties workshop

The Characterization and Materials Properties Workshop was established to support researchers in conducting studies aligned with the research themes developed at the center and to address the needs of professionals in the socio-economic sector. The workshop provides facilities for the study, analysis, characterization, and testing of a wide range of materials.

It is organized into three specialized laboratories, each equipped with conventional and advanced instruments:

Metallographic Preparation Laboratory – dedicated to sample preparation, including cutting, mounting, and polishing.

Materials Analysis Laboratory – focused on chemical analysis and multiscale observation using optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), atomic force microscopy (AFM), spark spectrometry, and carbon/sulfur analysis. This laboratory also supports crystallographic and texture analysis, as well as residual stress measurements using EBSD and X-ray diffraction techniques.

Testing Laboratory – designed for mechanical property evaluation, including tensile, impact, and hardness testing, among others.

This integrated platform enables comprehensive materials characterization, from microstructural and chemical analysis to mechanical performance assessment.
