Détection et identification des défauts des produits par thermographie active : Application aux matières métalliques et composites. [2022-2024]

Nowadays, manufactured products are produced in very important quantities in several industrial fields, including the automotive industry, civil engineering, naval construction industry, and industrial and household equipment, among others. The significant requirements for these products have boosted the development of new advanced techniques for their manufacturing as well as their controls. In general, the trend is towards online control to correct and optimize processes. However, several products are controlled in the laboratory and/or offline. Thus, a set of automatic systems that are, in general, based on X-rays or machine vision are installed for the supervision of the product parameters from different viewpoints, including, dimensional "AGC (Automatic Gauge Control)" and "AWC (Automatic Width Control)", shape "ASC (Automatic Shape Control), APC (Automatic Profile Control)", to name a few. Their main advantage lies in the fact that they allow non-contact control for various defects identification. The temperature or the heat flow progression can also be an efficient indicator of the product characteristics. To this end, in this project, we introduce the active thermography technology to detect surface and/or sub-surface defects in manufactured products which are subject to multiple imperfections such as cracks, pores, and the presence of impurities, among others. The application will be based on a thermal camera with an excitation device and an artificial intelligence-based software to be developed.
