Elaboration and characterization of a 3rd generation AHSS steel “Medium Mn Steel” for the automotive industry

Metals have a key role to play in the future thanks to their excellent physical and mechanical properties, as well as their high recyclability. This research project focuses on developing a new advanced high-strength steel (3rd generation AHSS, Medium Mn steel). The proposed approach combines hot forging with a specific heat treatment to produce a material that is both very strong and sufficiently ductile (able to deform without breaking). The main goal is to achieve the best possible balance between strength and elongation while keeping production costs reasonable. This new process could pave the way for more efficient, durable, and cost-effective steels for a wide range of industrial applications.
