This project ventures into the invisible transformations that occur when TIG welding awakens the alloy’s hidden dynamics. Within the molten boundaries of the weld, the once-stable alpha phase begins to dissolve, giving rise to new structures and unexpected mechanical behaviors.
This project traces the moment-by-moment evolution of these transformations, watching the alloy’s microstructure evolve, dissolve, and reconfigure itself. Through modeling and experimentation, it seeks to reveal how thermal history and phase kinetics dictate the strength, ductility, and resilience of titanium components.
