The increasing integration of hybrid materials, particularly combinations such as glass fiber-reinforced polyester (GFRP) and Aluminum (Al), into modern engineering structures has provided significant advantages in terms of weight reduction, mechanical strength, and corrosion resistance. However, these hybrid systems present new challenges for structural integrity assessment, especially at the interface between dissimilar materials, where defects such as delamination, disbonding, and interfacial cracking are difficult to detect using conventional non-destructive testing (NDT) techniques.

This team focuses on the development and application of dual-mode sensors that combine capacitive and inductive sensing technologies to improve the reliability of inspecting and characterizing these interfacial defects. The capacitive mode is highly sensitive to changes in dielectric properties, while the inductive mode detects variations in electrical conductivity and magnetic permeability. By integrating both techniques, the proposed sensor system enhances measurement sensitivity, selectivity, and spatial resolution.
