Rotary Friction Welding: Precision, Performance, and the Promise of Dissimilarity
Dr. Brahim Belkessa · 9/1/2025
This project dives into the mysterious thermomechanical world of rotary friction welding (RFW), a process where intense deformation and localized heat sculpt complex microstructures at the joint between dissimilar materials.
Far from being uniform, each weld reveals a hidden architecture of zones ‘recrystallized, deformed, and heat-affected’ each with its own story of transformation. Through advanced experimentation and microstructural analysis, the study aims to unravel how welding parameters govern phase evolution, residual stresses, and the ultimate mechanical integrity of the joint.
