Corrosion and Cathodic Protection

composites and corrosion [2016-2018]

A very large research activity is currently carried out in order to develop the field of protection against corrosion. This is due to the numerous disadvantages of the corrosion phenomenon which can cause accidents with serious consequences in the production of energy, civil engineering, transport, machinery, medical materials, micro-electronic components, etc.

Corrosion protection can develop according to different processes such as the choice of materials, the suitable shape of the parts, the choice of the best coating process. Nowadays, a major interest has been devoted to coating processes, in particular electrodeposited composite coatings such as Ni-P and Ni-W with solid particles such as SiO2, Al2O3, SiC, Si3N4… etc. This interest is motivated by the various technological and industrial applications thanks to the particular properties which are conferred on them by the incorporation of solid particles. More specifically, composite coatings with a metal matrix are frequently used and also more effective in combating corrosive phenomena. Several methods have been used to develop composite coatings (deposits) with a metal matrix such as electrolytic co-deposition. This method is based on the possibility of incorporating into

electrolytic deposits of solid particles which are kept in suspension in the electrolytic bath. Electrolytic co-deposition, in addition to the fact that it is inexpensive and that its implementation requires little material means, makes it possible to develop composite deposits with a metal matrix very resistant to corrosion by basing on the various parameters. and operating conditions that come into play during the development.
